If Mercs were considered legal for the challenge due to their strange nature as a faction, you could also pull off a different (faction pure) version of it using Zhanfu and possibly another Merc ship. (would just slow down the early game cargo transfers, especially if the convoy ships don\u0027t stop to help)\n\nConcept: Make the entire fleet faster by using Ex-Patriot crew on the EIC ships, and transferring treasure to a ship faster than L. Convoy ships are worth more points intact than the gold they carry (average value 10 vs. 7.5), so we want them to survive as much as possible.\n\nFrontier uses Hoist to transfer all her Mercenary crew to convoy ship #1 in exchange for all 4 of its treasure coins.  That ship can now move L+S x2 for 4 turns in a row (saccing all 4 oarsmen), then can sac the helmsman if desired for L+L on a 5th turn.\n\nFrontier then uses Hoist to grab the most valuable 3 coins from convoy ship #4, which will be left behind. This will fill her cargo hold with 7 coins, which are safer with Secret Hold.\n\nStrongarm uses Hoist to transfer O\u0027Brien and Merc helmsman to convoy ship #2 in exchange for 2 coins. She does the same for convoy ship #3, giving it Count Gustov and the last Merc helmsman.  This allows Strongarm to carry 4 coins, distributing the treasure load across the fleet.  It also allows for the second and third convoy ships to move up to L+S x2 in a turn, depending on SAT and EA d6 luck.\n\nAlthough the convoy ships are East India Company faction, Ex-Patriot lets us exploit the regular crew problems: This crew may use its abilities onboard any ship. Any ship to which this crew is assigned gains the Mercenary keyword; the ship retains its original nationality, but other crew of the Mercenary nationality may also use their abilities onboard.\n\nSince there is no allied home island, we don\u0027t care about getting the Mercenary keyword.  If anything it might help, since it would make it harder for a ship like Harbinger to warp-capture one of the convoy ships by not allowing either to dock at home.\n\nThis way, instead of having a battle fleet slowed by the convoy creeping along at L, we end up with the treasure spread across 5 ships, all of them moving at least L+S every turn. One of them moves S+S+S and three have the possibility of moving L+S+L+S quite often."}
