Either that or I over thought and made things more difficult for myself. I began first by categorizing weather and differentiating weather phenomena from natural disasters. This ruled out game pieces like the Volcano UT, along with the Isle of Fire. I eventually settled on six types of weather one might expect at sea, and that could be referenced with Pirates game pieces: Sunny Skies, Calm Winds, Violent Winds, No Wind, Fog, and Storms. I determined that I needed at least one overall game piece to fit each, and ideally at least one ship.

Beginning things with the first category of Weather and the first ship in the fleet we have Le Ciel Bleu, representing clear and sunny skies; what would be considered the ideal weather for sailing, going out and doing things, and in general a beautiful day.

Filling the next category of calm winds we have HMS Zephyr. I had several choices for this slot but settled on the lesser used HMS Zephyr over the other options, in particular the Zephyr from SM. Being named after the Greek god of the west wind, the calmest of the four winds, HMS Zephyr fills the calm wind category and comes equipped with a smokepot specialist, who will be relevant later.

Violent Winds did not have many options. Initially I had thought to use ships that had Wind in the name that were Cursed and thus implied by their faction their violent or not calm nature. I settled instead on three options. Firstly, the Gale Force Nine, representing strong and violent winds. Next the Foul Winds event. The card art of this event implies and illustrates what I envisioned when considering this category of weather. Finally we have the Mysterious Island, Isle of Fisaga from Savage Shores, with named abilities that refer to winds. The fleet will include as many of these islands as possible. Given that this is an 80 point game and not a 40 point game, the usual 3 islands per player rule may be discarded in favor of another option. However if that is not the case then 3 of them will be submitted for set-up, with my fleet attempting to not use one as a home island.

No winds is different from the sunny sky, as even on clear days there can be slight breezes. No wind implies a stillness to the air, to me often accompanied by heat or humidity. There was really only one choice for this category, the Becalmed event. The fear of sailors the world over, when the wind stops blowing and the seas grow still, the dreaded doldrums.

Foggy Weather gave me a few interesting choices. Smokepot Specialists and Smokepot Shot generate fog banks and as such two are included in the fleet, one aboard HMS Zephyr who can use her reverse captain ability to potentially hide in the fog, and one aboard the ship in the storm category. Also included is the Rolling Fog event, simulating real world phenomena in the game with the fog moving about on the ocean. Obviously I couldn’t not include the fog bank terrain. Like the Isle of Fisaga the fleet will attempt to include as many of these terrain as possible during set up, with many of them placed near islands to simulate a marine layer typical of coastal areas. Finally, Mist Walker rounds out the foggy weather category, not only with the Sea Monster's ability to jump from fog bank to fog bank, but with its name. I categorized Mist as a subset of the of Fog and Storm categories, fitting into both. The ability however pushed me to include Mist Walker in the fog category.

Finally, the most obvious category: Storm. With Customs allowed I immediately thought of my Storm terrain (art file in #projects)
They were my first immediate thought upon receiving my theme, as they are literally a type of weather. Like the Fog Banks, the fleet will attempt to place as many as possible during set-up, with the storms to be more heavily favored over the fog banks. Who else to include in this section but a storm god? Thor is here in two forms, the first are the Runes of Thor, the second is the Donar, a Germanic version of the Norse god.

Rounding out the fleet we have three more unique treasures: Poseidon’s Breath, representing winds, sometimes calm, other times not. Neptune’s Trident, representing high seas conditions. Finally we have Lost, not representing any specific category, but a means to place potentially more storm or fog terrain, and thus more weather to take with you.

PSM currently does not have support for islands or Events, hence the point total is a little off.
"}
