Lore Explained:

-Trevor Van Tyne: Trevor's first appearance in the set Davy Jones' Curse, sees him linked to HMS Bretwalda, and is supported by her flavor text. Interestingly, Van Tyne's flavor text implies a history with Godiva; whether it was one-sided, or purely platonic may be up for debate, but for the sake of this challenge, I choose to imply some mutual pining, that presumably ended after Van Tyne fell under Fantasma's control. His connection to Hermione Gold as his "current partner" lies in his flavor text from Rise of the Fiends, where his love for her freed him from Fantasma's power.

Hermione Gold: As stated above, Gold and Van Tyne are implied to be something of a couple, with their link in RotF supporting that claim. This relationship similarly seems like it may be one-sided, with no flavor mention of Van Tyne from Gold, but again, I choose to believe in the drama, here. On the other hand, there is confirmed bad blood between Gold and O'Brien, dating back to Mysterious Islands. The Gold family greatly benefitted from the O'Brien's likely unjust imprisonment, and Eileen's escape ignited Hermione's quest for "justice" against the insult to her family's name. This rivalry is seen lasting all the way to Savage Shores, therefore, remains likely unresolved.

-Mademoiselle Josephine Godiva: Despite Josephine's constant portrayal as a paragon of innocence and purity, her name appears frequently in other crew flavor texts. Papa Doc, Jacques, Duc de Valois, and Trevor Van Tyne being the most immediate examples. A mention of a "Betrothed in the new world" within Godiva's flavor text creates another interesting angle to her story, especially since Return to Savage Shores implies that she either *still* somehow hasn't completed her journey to meet with him, or that at least they had to part ways sometime between the set releases. With the identity of her betrothed never given, the plot can thicken, and the potential drama can spiral.

-Eileen Brigid O'Brien: Eileen's hatred for the English and especially for the Golds is what brought me to the creation of this fleet. Trevor and Josephine are honestly just lucky collateral in this one. As stated above, there is a long history of bad blood between them, and even though her cannon bonus isn't really that useful in this build, her Savage Shores release simply can't set aside her Hostility for England enough to make the cut. Her current version's inclusion works as setting up just how serious the Cursed threat is, if the French Navy are willing to ask the Mercenaries for help. Especially when she's the only one to answer the call, reinforcing her allyship with the French in Savage Shores.

-Chieftain/Canoes: Despite bearing the French flag, I am choosing to write the canoes as manned by loyalists to Eileen, who came with her, and are using French Navy equipment to their advantage. A lore technicality at best, I know. But with no other method of collecting gold, I had to think of something that would fit within my then very low point margin.

"}
