For years, Don Rafael Viera Sanchez captained his plucky vessel, the San José without incident. Unfortunately, fate played a cruel game when a surprise storm forced his beloved ship ashore; his skill and resourcefulness allowed him to save crew and cargo but not his ship. Discovering it had been later refloated by the Americans, he offered his services to serve as a liasion between America and Spain in exchange for continuing to captain his old vessel.
