(Born c. 1540 – Died 28 January 1596) Regarded as an English Explorer, privateer, and later statesman, Sir Francis Drake holds the title as the First Englishman to circumnavigate the globe, being only the second ever in the world to do so at the time. To the Spanish his moniker of "The Dragon" is well earned from his raids against Spanish holdings during sed circumnavigation. He would later go on to lead both victorious and failed campaigns against the Spanish, dying of dysentery in 1596 while trying to take modern day Panama.
