Whereupon he would use his charismatic nature and flare to earn a friendship with the Dey of Tunis. It would be from this friendship, Ward would earn the moniker "Jack the Sparrow." He would later adopt Islam, taking the name Yusuf Reis, after being refused a pardon by England. He would later retire from piracy to his private estate, whereupon he would die in 1622 due to disease.
