| A ship loaded with this treasure may make a special L-range attack. Measuring from any mast, or the front, or after end of your ship, roll a d6. On a 1, the device explodes, replacing one mast with a firemast; then removing this equipment from the game. On a 2-4 the device fails resulting in no effect. On a 5-6, remove one mast from the targeted ship and replace it with a firemast. Firemasts function as per Firemast Rules. | |

| Perfected by engineer Robert Whitehead of England, this originally Austrian designed "infernal machine" promises to bring forth a new method of conducting naval warfare from at range whilst maintaining a ship's mobility. The reactive compounds powering these devices, however, have left some with a sense of deep intrepidation. | |

Additional notes
First perfected in 1866, in this Alternate History time-line, it could be assumed that this equipment could have found its way to the Americas and either wound up fighting with the French against Mexico or being used by both sides in the American Civil War. This device as designed is meant to represent both the torpedoes themselves and their launchers, hence their reusability provided a 1 isn't rolled.
