(Captain George Hawford)
After the 1839 Mutiny, in which the formerly named "La Amistad" was taken over by the slaves she carried and subsequent impounding in the United States, the vessel would be sold in 1840. Registered to a native of Newport, Rhode Island, she would be renamed to "Ion." Captained by George Hawford, she would be rearmed and refitted, serving as a lightly armed New England merchant vessel between Newport and several ports in the Caribbean until being sold in 1844.
