017
The Gül-i Sefid (meaning "White Rose" in Ottoman Turkish/Persian) was a 38-meter, 22-gun corvette in the Ottoman Navy built around 1831. The ship was part of Admiral Osman Pasha’s fleet stationed in Sinop during the Crimean War. On November 30, 1853, the Imperial Russian Navy launched a surprise attack on the Ottoman fleet in Sinop Harbor. During the battle, the Gül-i Sefid was heavily damaged by Russian warships (such as the Tri Sviatitelia), ran aground, and was ultimately destroyed.
