The shared voyage of John Rackham, Anne Bonny, and Mary Read began on August 22, 1720 with the theft of John Ham’s sloop, the William, out of Nassau’s harbor. Governor Rogers’ proclamation against these pirates on September 5 described the William as a small sloop of about 12 tons carrying four carriage guns and two swivel guns.
